PhD students completed

Manoj Kamalanathan’s thesis on “Optimization of microalgae for enhanced lipid production” was ratified by the Graduate Research Steering Committee on  Tuesday 19th January 2016. Manoj is now working as a post-doc at Texas A & M University in Texas.

Paulina Mikulic’s thesis on “Contrasting zinc toxicity effects on model extremophilic and neutrophilic freshwater algal species” was ratified by the Graduate Research Steering Committee on  Tuesday 22nd March 2016.

Amanda Elaine Mannfolk’s thesis, entitled “Will nitrogen limitation and high CO2 concentrations impact upon the sinking velocity of phytoplankton?” was ratified by the Graduate Research Steering Committee on  Tuesday 8th March 2016.

Both Amanda and Paulina are currently working as analysts for the National Australia Bank.


PhD awards

Congratulations to lab members Stuart Henry Larson and Ellen Doxey on the recent award of their PhDs.

Stuart’s thesis was entitled: “Dimethylsulphoniopropionate (DMSP) production of Gephyrocapsa oceanica in response to environmental forcing”.

Ellen’s thesis was entitled “Physiological effects and UVB sensitivity in the marine phytoplankton Emiliania huxleyi in response to elevated carbon dioxide concentration and high photon flux”
